Silver Lake Resort was once privately owned from 1902 until 1967, when the Whatcom County Parks and Recreation purchased the land for the enjoyment of future generations. The tract purchased by the Parks and Recreation included the Embert E. Gerdrum's Historical House, which is located at the west entrance of the park. Around 1894, Mr. Gerdrum felled one tree of cedar and split it into enough lumber to build the house that stands today.
